Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of the UH&ISF is made up of four experienced and high-profile members of the American community who freely give their time and expertise in support of the UH&ISF's mission.


Mr. Stephen M McPherson - Director & President

Steve McPherson is a founding principal of Teton Associates, a boutique executive recruiting firm specializing in retained search services for the asset management industry.  Steve focuses solely on the asset management industry and with 20 years in the search industry has a data base of senior investment professionals that runs into the thousands. Based in New York. He has a BA in History from Harvard University and has previous experience in commercial lending with J.P. Morgan. Steve is a passionate golfer.

Mr James Fraser - Director

 

Dr Christopher Pratt - Director

Administration and Senior Policy Fellow, Institute for the Economy and the Future, at the College of Business at Western Carolina University. Previously served as Dean of Career Education at Columbia University from September 1, 2001 until August 2007. Prior to Columbia, Dr. Pratt served in a similar capacity at MIT. He was also appointed as a Lecturer in the School of Engineering through the Integrated Studies Programme. Before MIT, he founded and served as Director of the Atlantic Cooperative Education Training and Resource Centre at Seton Hall University.

He holds a doctorate from Seton Hall University, a master's from Bradley University, and a bachelor's from Northeastern University. Dr. Pratt is the author of the Encouraging Development of Global Entrepreneurs (EDGE), a unique international internship programme in entrepreneurship and enterprise leadership developed by Columbia University in collaboration with Scottish Enterprise and in conjunction with the University of Glasgow and the Education Authorities of Dunbartonshire, Scotland.

Prof. James F Winchester M.B., Ch.B., M.D., FRCP (Glasgow), FACP - Director

James F. Winchester is a member of the American Scottish Foundation.  He received his internal medicine and nephrology training in Glasgow, Scotland, developing clinical and research interests in poisoning and removal of toxins with dialysis and hemoperfusion. He joined the staff at Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington, DC, in 1976, achieving tenure as Professor of Medicine (1987), as well as Chief of the Division of Nephrology from 1988-1994. From 2000-2004, he was Chief Medical Officer, RenalTech International, directing research into the use of sorbents in end-stage renal disease, inflammation and sepsis.

His New York appointments include faculty positions at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Downstate Medical Center and Columbia University. He was appointed Chief, Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at Beth Israel Medical Center in July, 2004. He has over 250 scientific papers, reviews

and chapters. He was editor of "Clinical Management of Poisoning and Drug Overdose" is current Editor-in-chief of "Replacement of Renal Function by Dialysis." He is past President of the American Society for Artificial Internal Organs, and was in leadership positions in the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis, and the National Kidney Foundation.


Mr James Fraser - Director and Treasurer

James Fraser gained an MA (Hons) in Mental Philosophy from the University of Edinburgh in 1971. He was appoin

ted as a Lecturer in English and Liberal Studies at Inverness Technical College, now Inverness College UHI and an academic partner in UHI. During this time James was elected to the newly formed Highland Regional Council Education Committee as one of three teacher members and he completed an FE Teaching qualification at Jordanhill College.

In 1977 he took up an administrative post in the Academic Registry of the University of Stirling, gaining promotion in 1980 to Assistant Registrar. He graduated M.Ed from the University o

f Stirling in 1983. In 1987 he was appointed Secretary of Queen Margaret College in Edinburgh, now Queen Margaret University. From 1972 to 1979 James also worked part-time with the Open University as a tutor on some of its arts courses. James was appointed as Secretary to Paisley College of Technology in 1989; Paisley was granted University status in 1992 and James remained as University Secretary until 2002 when he was appointed as Secretary of the UHI Millennium Institute. In January 2007 his post was redesignated as Deputy Principal-Secretary of UHI.

He was appointed as UHI Principal in October 2009.
