Exploring and learning more about our Scottish roots

Based in the Cathedral town of Dornoch in Sutherland, the University of the Highlands and Islands Center for History is becoming internationally renowned for its research and teaching in Highland, Scottish and wider-world history.

Attracting students from across the world the UHI Center for History offers a mix of class room based teaching, video-conferencing and on-line materials.  The Center successfully launched a fully online MLitt History of the Highlands and Islands which now includes students in Australia, Canada, Kenya and Romania as well as the UK.

The Center recently attracted philanthropic support from the Royal Dornoch Golf Club for an innovative PhD which was looking at golf and other sporting history in the region from the 1600s to 1800s in advance of the Club’s 400th anniversary celebrations. Part of this scholarship was supported by supporters in the USA who donated to the University of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland Foundation.

If you have a passion for history and want to learn more about your ancestral past, please make a gift to the Foundation.
